چکیده

In this study, we aimed to determine the average VOT (voice onset time) values of the Turkish stop consonants by using 30 volunteers (15 female and 15 male). For this aim, we measured the VOT values of the six Turkish stops (i.e., /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/ and /g/), which were uttered by 30 subjects in three times, on wideband spectrograms. At the result of this study, the average VOT values of /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/ and /g/ were found to be 41, 66, 50, 53, 69, and 10 ms, respectively. 2006 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Voice onset times and burst frequencies of four velar stop consonants in Gujarati.

Voice onset times ~VOT! and burst frequencies of two aspirated ~i.e., /k /, /g/) and two unaspirated ~i.e., /k/, /g/! Gujarati velar stop consonants were investigated in an effort to provide characteristic acoustic information. Stop consonants in a monosyllabic vowel–consonant–vowel ~VCV! production were obtained from eight native speakers of Gujarati. Differences in mean VOT and burst frequenc...

Simplification of /s/ + stop consonant clusters: a developmental perspective.

This longitudinal study examined individual patterns and changes in /s/ + stop cluster simplifications of six normally developing children. Subjects produced selected words containing initial voiced and voiceless stops and /s/ + stop clusters at monthly intervals. Speech samples were transcribed phonetically, and voice onset times (VOT) of the stop consonants were measured. The results revealed...

Selective Adaptation of Linguistic Feature Detectors1

Using a selective adaptation procedure, evidence was obtained for the existence of linguistic feature detectors, analogous to visual feature detectors. These detectors are each sensitive to a restricted range of voice onset times, the physical continuum underlying the perceived phonetic distinctions between voiced and voiceless stop consonants. The sensitivity of a particular detector can be re...
